An image of Jesus.

How to know if Jesus has saved you, in simple words, according to the Bible. You can know that Jesus has saved you by trusting His promise in the Bible. You don’t have to be perfect, and you don’t have to live in constant fear that God will reject you.

Here are 5 things the Bible teaches about how you know you are saved.

1. You believe in Jesus

The Bible teaches that whoever believes in Jesus has eternal life. John 6:47 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” You don’t have to understand everything about God to trust Jesus. You can keep learning as you grow in faith.

2. You trust that Jesus can forgive your sins

Maybe you’ve done things you regret. Maybe you have made the same mistake more than once. The good news is that you can still come to Jesus and ask for forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 teaches that God is faithful and will forgive our sins when we confess them. Your past does not have to define your future with God.

3. You want to turn away from sin

When you follow Jesus, your heart and choices can begin to change. You may feel sorry when you do wrong and want to do better. You will not become perfect overnight. Growing in faith takes time. 2 Corinthians 5:17 describes the new life a person has in Christ.

4. You don’t have to feel saved every moment

Sometimes you might feel close to God. Other times you might feel afraid, confused, or distant from Him. Your feelings are not the final measure of whether God has saved you. You can hold on to His promises even when your emotions change. 1 John 5:11–13 explains that believers can know they have eternal life through God’s testimony about His Son.

5. You keep coming back to Jesus

If you stumble, don’t assume everything is over. Confess your sin, ask for help, and continue following Him. Jesus said in John 6:37 that He will not cast out anyone who comes to Him. Christians understand differently how someone can lose or persevere in salvation, but they agree that Jesus calls people to trust Him and follow Him.

So, how can you know if Jesus has saved you?

Ask yourself:

  • Do I believe in Jesus and trust Him for salvation?
  • Do I come to God honestly and ask for forgiveness?
  • Do I want to follow Jesus, even though I still make mistakes?

These can be encouraging signs of faith. You don’t need to prove you are perfect to earn God’s grace. Romans 10:13 says: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” You can trust Jesus instead of living as though you must earn His love every day.
