True believers aim to follow Jesus in all aspects of their lives. Some people may try to act like Jesus only while they are in church, but once they leave, they often return to their usual ways.
This post is about the consequences of judging others. Some people in church may struggle with this idea, and many who attend services might not always practice what they preach.
When I mention that not everyone in church acts as they should, I also mean some leaders and preachers. For example, in the past, the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman accused of adultery before Jesus.
John 8:5-7 NIV – In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Even today, some people in church judge others, such as alcoholics, homosexuals, or drug addicts. They may forget that everyone has faults, or believe their own mistakes are minor and easily forgiven because they attend church regularly.
I feel sympathy for those in church who judge others, as it can make life harder for everyone. Some may think that their church activities make them more loved by God than others. I hope they reflect on Matthew 7:1 NIV: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”
I no longer attend church regularly. When I did, it was mainly for my wife, who believed that true believers were common there. In my experience, though, I found that was not always the case.
I know I am not perfect, so I do not judge others harshly. What bothers me most is when people pretend to be someone else at church. I believe it is important to be yourself, wherever you are.
Sometimes, people in church try hard to show others they are true believers, even though only God knows what is in their hearts. It is not other people who decide their faith or future.
When others do not act as we expect, we often label them quickly. We should remember that others may also judge us. I sometimes catch myself unfairly labeling someone who has treated me unkindly.
We all need Jesus’s help, but we should also be careful about how we speak, act, and think about others, since they are our brothers and sisters.
