Sexual Immorality Issues

People have been sinning since the time of Adam and Eve. They are best known for eating the forbidden fruit, but many of us struggle with sexual immorality.

Adam and Eve likely committed other sins too, though it’s unclear if any were sexual, since God brought them together as a couple. At that time, God had not yet given Moses the commandments.

As the world’s population grew after Adam and Eve, sexual immorality became common, just as it is today. Sexual Immorality is a sin, and we all know that the penalty for sin is death, which could result in you going to hell.

If you commit sexual immorality, it is a sin regardless of your title or position. If you are not a public figure, your sins are less likely to become widely known because you are a private person. However, if you are in a prominent position, especially as a Christian, your sins may receive a lot of public attention.

Do Christians struggle with sexual immorality? Yes, because we are human, and all humans are sinners. Does God disapprove of this? Yes, He does. For Christians, sexual immorality is different from other sins.

If you are a true believer—not just someone who claims to be—this is especially important. The bodies of true believers are the “temple of the Holy Spirit.” This means the Holy Spirit lives within them.

Most other sins happen outside our bodies, but sexual sin is against our own bodies. Since the Holy Spirit lives in us, this is especially serious. The Bible teaches that moral sex is between a man and a woman who are married to each other. Any other sexual behavior is considered sexual immorality and is a sin. This means sex before marriage is not allowed.

Sex between people of the same sex is considered a sin, but so is sex between a man and a woman if they are not married. In Moses’s time, divorce was not allowed, but people still looked for ways to separate from their spouses.

Jesus later allowed divorce if one or both spouses had a voluntary sexual affair outside marriage. Today, we do not know if Jesus would allow other arrangements, such as LGBTQ relationships, because he is not physically present as he was then.

You may have heard about religious leaders involved in sexual immorality with members of their congregation. Even though they are leaders, their actions are not worse than the sexual sins others commit. Religious leaders should be held to a higher standard for sexual immorality than those who are not leaders.

Religious leaders know, or should know, that this is a direct sin against the Holy Spirit. Members who take part in sexual immorality with leaders are also responsible, unless they were pressured or forced. If you know you have committed a sexual sin or any sin and want to change, pray and tell Jesus what you have done. Ask Jesus to forgive your sins and make an effort to stop so He can forgive you.
