Are We Attending Church for The Right Reasons?

People holding up their hands.

We sometimes attend Church for the wrong reasons; that is why I asked, are we attending Church for the right reasons? When we find ourselves in need, whether physical, mental, spiritual, or financial, we often want to visit a Church (a Religious Worship Place). Believing that Jesus will help us with our problems if we visit these religious places.

If we think that way, we do not honestly know Jesus. When we attend church, the pastor will tell us that we are experiencing these problems because we do not pay our tithes or give offerings, which may have contributed to our current situation.

When and if we come to know Jesus, we will discover that He will supply all our needs and some of our desires. But remember, Jesus operates like all other people; if we want something from people, Jesus included, it will require something from us in return. If we do what is required, we get what we need; if we do not do what is required, we do not get what we need.

Since Jesus said in Matthew 7:7,  “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you,” but for that to happen, you must be a follower of Jesus. Including “Let your will be done” in our requests to Jesus will not hurt.

When we get to know Jesus, we will understand how he operates. We will not complain when we do not get the job we prayed/asked for because we will know that was not what Jesus wanted for us. Jesus always has our best interests in mind.

We can go directly to Jesus in our home or apartment to tell Him our needs, wants, and desires. We do not have to go to the church building, although Jesus suggests we attend a religious meeting (Church) sometimes. Hebrews 10:25 – not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as we see the Day approaching.

We all face difficulties in life at times, and if we are believers, we should ask Jesus for help. If Jesus does not respond as we want, please do not get angry at Jesus. We should be thankful for what we have already gained from Jesus.

Regarding your offerings, you determine the amount you will give, so we should not let anyone tell us how much to give in our offerings. Also, do not let anyone tell us whom to give our money to; we decide whom, where, and how much to give in our offerings.

I have seen a TV Evangelist tell the viewers how much money to give and where to send it. Some of these TV Evangelists and preachers will try to convince us to give our offerings by using the verse below. Many people fell for that scheme, but they never received a financial blessing from God.

Malachi 3:9-10 – 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse so there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

The above verse is for Jews under the law; it does not apply to today’s Christians, because we are not under the law, we are under grace, so do not be suckered into giving when someone uses that verse—trying to deceive you into giving your money to them.
